Special: Arnim Basche and Norbert Thielmann produce a DVD with the highlights of the FEI European jumping championship
Highlights of the highlight: The FEI European jumping championship in the MVV riding stadium in Mannheim from the 14th to19th of August 2007 will be the highlight of the 400th anniversary of the Mannheim town. And to make sure that every equestrian sports fan will still remember the EC days in the Rhine-Neckar metropolis region, Arnim Basche and Norbert Thielmann, the two former ZDF experts, were engaged by the organisers to produce a DVD with the highlights of the European championship 2007. “A fantastic European Championship is over”
Hosts won gold, silver and bronze
With the completion of the medal set for the German host by the individual gold medal, won by Meredith Michaels Beerbaum, and the individual bronze medal, achieved by Ludger Beerbaum, on the final day, - after team silver on Friday – ended the FEI European Jumping Championship in the MVV riding stadium Mannheim on Sunday. In a dramatic final, Jos Lansink (Belgium) won the silver medal in the individual ranking in front of 11.000 spectators. With a total of 57.500 spectators at all six days, the mark that had been set before, was exceeded.
“We have seen a top final with fantastic sports”, said Peter Hofmann, the President of the organizing committee, who certified the medal winners fantastic performances – as well as his course designer. “We stuck to our decision for Christa Jung, and it has been a good decision”, he paid Jung’s courses, which were real championship courses, a big compliment. The investment in the footing of the MVV riding stadium “was absolutely correct, as all riders had outstanding sports conditions and all horses have jumped as if they have been on a trampoline”, added Hofmann.
A big compliment from the top was then paid to him – from Sven Holmberg, the 1st Vice President of the FEI World Equestrian Federation: “I have been present at many championships, but I am really impressed by this European Championship – not only from the sports but also the organizing point of view. It is fantastic what Mannheim and Peter Hofmann have accomplished.” Hofmann forwarded this compliment and pointed out: “All collaborators, who have been on duty in the run-up to and during the event, have done a brilliant job and contributed to this fantastic EC, which has been the highlight of the 400th anniversary of the city of Mannheim. I would very much like to thank all of them for their contribution”.
